A day in the life of a stay at home mom of 4.

After having been told that I am lazy because i am a stay at home mom yesterday, I decided it was about time I that actually write out exactly what it is that a stay at home mom of 4 does on a daily basis. This is just one day out of my week.

I generally wake up at 6am, make myself a cup of coffee (in my keurig because it only takes about 30 seconds for a cup of liquid gold). while having my coffee, i am making lunches for my 3 school age children, which need to be packed by me in their school bags along with their agenda’s and homework (which has been checked) and neatly placed in the hallway.

Make myself another coffee and drink it quickly while I do the dishes and wipe up counters and make a grocery list, and then have my shower and get dressed before my kids get up at 7am.

while the kids are all getting dressed I pick up all the dirty laundry and bring it to the laundry room where i seperate it and start my usual 3 loads of laundry a day. I clean the litter box and get the garbage all bagged and put it in the bin out back.

By 8am the kids are dressed and fed and are brushing their hair and teeth. Once again I get to finish up the dishes and sweep and steam the hardwood floors and vacuum the area rugs. the kids are then walked to school (by me) and then it’s home to check on the laundry, make beds and then go grocery shopping.

by noon, I have my youngest daughter fed, groceries put away and then sit down to fold a gigantic pile of laundry into separate piles for each member of my family, as well as the linens and kitchen towels and are put in whatever room they belong in.Then I have the pleasure of dusting, cleaning up smudgy windows and dinner prep if its needed before going to pick up the kids at school.

Homework and unpacking lunch boxes is always first to be done when my kids come home from school and then its dinner time by 4:30. On Wednesday’s after dinner, my kids put on their karate uniforms and its off to their 45 minute class, then home for showers and bedtime at 8pm.

While the boys, being 10 and 12 are aloud to stay up till 9pm reading my 7 year old daughter usually gets a quick bedtime story and falls asleep pretty quick. My 3 year old generally falls asleep in the car on the way home so it right up to bed for her.

By now I am beat so it’s time to sit down with a nice glass of wine (not every night) and unwind while watching my shows on tv.

So in the event that you are still convinced that a stay at home mom has an easy life or just sits at home watching soaps and eating bonbons, I challenge you to walk a day in my shoes.

Making time for Mommy!

Mommy’s time out! I was stumped on what to talk about this month. So I asked “What would be a great topic to speak about” within seconds of my tweet the trend of responses was “Making time for myself” so let me get started in telling you on a personal level on my “Mommy Time Out”. I put the question out there on Facebook and asked “What do you do when you have Mommy Free time… free from everything and have “ME” time?” and I got loads of responses from working out, taking a bath, reading, pedicure/spa treatments, getaways, get out with friends, shopping, a glass of vino and tv, sleep, listen to music, but the biggest surprise of them all was I got a lot of answers that said “What Me time” so if your one of the Mom’s who said what is Mommy time, what is me time this is what I’m going to tell you.

“Until you value yourself, you will not value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it. ~ M. Scott Peck”

After having 2 boys only 17 months apart and being a work at home mom. I personally need “Mommy time Out” as we are all Moms and need that time out from time to time. When my boys where younger I joined a “Mom & Baby” play group. That was great and I have met some wonderful women from a few play-groups. What I do now is host a few Mom’s Night In or Out. Have you been to a MNI/MNO? They are a fun way to make time for yourself.  If you have made friends along the way here are a great list of things to do for MNI/MNO. These are things I have done personally and still do with my girlfriends. (**they don’t have to be Mom’s either to enjoy**)

~Host Come Dine With Me (you get 4 or 6 of your closest girlfriends) and each take a turn hosting “Come Dine with Me” you can plan a theam, (Mexican, Indian, Italian, French, Greek) sky’s the limit and have fun with it. We do this every 3 months it’s fun. We did start off playing for 20$ each and a winner take home the cash but we could not just vote for 1 person as we all had great dishes…

~Pj’s and Movie Oh My! I have done this a few time it’s great for winter nights. You get a bunch of girlfriends over for a movie night, treats and laughs the kids are in bed sleeping. Your hubby is home making sure that if the child(ren) do wake you don’t have to worry. Fun fun fun!

~Spa Nights where you do pedicures, manicure, facials this is a great fun night with other girlfriends I just hosted my “Moms Night In” Spa night here are some photos of the “food table”
Hearb Goat Cheese Balls & some Vino

yummy meat/fruit platter

Let the Mom's have a great time out!!!

Here is just a quick list of things you can do with your girlfriends. Feel free to comment below if you have any that you would like to share:

So sure I talked about Mom’s Night In/Out lets talk about Mommy’s time to get away from it all (Me, Myself & I) I told you what I do to have a wonderful night out with my girlfriends however I always need that 30min to 1 hour time for myself and I only do MNI or MNO once or twice a month depending on what’s going on. Alone time a few moms where right on the money with what they do in their free time:
~read a book
~take a bubble bath
~have a glass of vino
~do your own pedicure or manicure (or go to the spa)
~hit the gym (this is something I need to do but require a partner in crime)
~catch up on your favorite TV show or movie

~taking phtoos

I’m hoping that this list of things to do have inspired you to take much-needed time that you need. Everyone needs time to themself 15 min or 1 hour or a day or two. Regardless of the time that you do get what matters most is you take the time that you do get and make it special for yourself. You will notice a change in how you feel be it a much-needed coffee break a walk outside or a full on body work-out. I have learned over the past 3 years of having children your life will never be the same pre: children nor should it be. However life with kids does not mean your “Me” time is gone. You can find time, make time for everyone else and everything else in your life why not do it for You. I wrote this for everyone and I hope you enjoy some or all of these suggestions. If you have anything that I did not mention please feel free to comment below and let me know what you do and share with other Moms.  If you’d like copies of my wording for hosting your on Mom’s Night In with your girlfriends send me a e-mail to info@babyyums.com (sub: MNI) and I’d be more than happy to pass the info along.

Enjoy your Mommy’s Time Out! I just did writing this blog post for you!

Easter Bunny & Chocolate

Happy Easter!

Working on the boys Easter baskets. So what are you putting in the Easter Basket? Feel free to comment below.  What are your healthy choices? Here is a list of things that we have put in the boys basket . Yes chocolate is in their basket it would not be Easter without a few chocolate eggs right?

Our Easter Basket Goodies

  1. A summer outfit and a few tee-shirts
  2. Fun games they can play with each other
  3. Card games
  4. I also made both boys a CD with their favorite music for the car
  5. Play-doh

I found a web-site click here. That had free printable. Here is what they look like. I have mine all printed out and ready to go for Easter Sunday for the boys to have their egg hunt

I love this recipe thought I’d share with you. Turkey Stuffing! Need a easy stuffing recipe for your Easter Turkey?  Simple yet tasty recipe. *Recipe found on Cooking Nook*

Best Turkey Stuffing

3/4 cup butter
2 1/2 cups chopped onions
2 cups chopped celery
4 teaspoons dried sage
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried savory
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon marjoram
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
14 cups dried white bread, cubed

In a large frying pan, melt butter over a medium heat. Fry onions and celery together with the dried herbs, salt and pepper, stirring often, until vegetables are tender, about 10-15 minutes.

Transfer the mixture to a very large bowl. Add the bread cubes and mix well.

If you are making the stuffing ahead: Transfer the cooked vegetable mixture to a large bowl. Let cool and refrigerate in an airtight container for 24 hours. Mix with bread cubes before stuffing the bird.

Stuff the turkey at both ends with this mixture. (see our Roast Turkey Recipe for directions on stuffing the bird).

IMPORTANT:
Stuff the turkey just before baking it. Do NOT stuff the bird ahead and let it sit, even in the refrigerator. It can become infected with bacteria and make you quite ill.
feel free to share your favorite stuffing that you use.

Enjoy your Easter Weekend with loved ones!
